The Ghana Insures Association has brightened up the faces of the children at the Demonstration School For The Deaf, Mampong in the Eastern Region.

The association donated items worth over GH¢100,000 to the children at the demonstration school in Mampong last week.

The donation was in line with the association’s annual cooperate social responsibility programme dubbed ‘Promoting Inclusivity and Accessibility’. The association embarks on this drive every year as a way of giving back to society, especially the needy and vulnerable.

The demonstration school is one of the schools earmarked for this year’s (2024) Insurance Awareness Month celebration.

The school has a population of over 200 children, ranging from ages 11 years, which it takes care of, nurture and shelter until adulthood or when they are put to self-employment and become self-sufficient. Among the children are those from abusive homes or abandoned by their parents, found and brought to the school.

GIA, led by the Vice President – Henry Bukari who is also the Managing Director of Donewell Insurance Company and Chairman of the ECOWAS Brown Card, in his opening speech, revealed that the current financial inclusion rate for Ghana is 96 percent, indicating that all sectors of the society should have access to the financial services – including insurance.

However, he indicated that usage of this financial service is paltry and is a major concern, especially among vulnerable groupings.

“This is largely due to a number of inhibiting factors, including lack of bespoke products and structures designed with this groups in mind. The special needs of these people cannot be underestimated, and it is our view that we should do our little to break this barrier.”

The vice president added that insurance is the economic bedrock of every society, “but we cannot make insurance the Ghanaian way of life by excluding a given population”.

It is for this reason that GIA is setting the tone for inclusivity by leading the advocacy during our insurance awareness month celebration for 2024. “Our interaction with you will afford us the opportunity to learn at first-hand some of the unique challenges we have to address, as an important sector of the financial services spectrum.”

The items presented to the school include palm oil, rice, maize, beans (50kg), wheat (50kg), gari (150kg), sugar (50kg), Ena Pa Mackerel, Peak Milk, toilet roll, cooking oil, sacks and gallons, dual leaning desk, one table top fridge, company branded exercise books and WCs with hand wash basin.

Henry Bukari further called on other corperates to assist the school.
