After weeks of competitive football, the 2024 MTN Ashantifest Community Soccer tournament will culminate on Sunday, July 28 at the Otumfuo Park in Dichemso, Kumasi as Bantama takes on Amakom.
Bantama beat defending champions Ejisu 4-2 on penalties, having come from two goals down to draw 2-2 in regulation time. An own goal by Emmanuel Agyemang Badu gifted Ejisu the lead before Legon Cities forward, Kwabena Boateng extended the lead for the defending champions.
Just as Ejisu thought they had sealed the qualification pass to play in the final, Emmanuel Sarpong, who plays for Ghana Premier League side – Berekum Chelsea – scored two goals in succession to change the equation, taking the game into penalty shootout where Bantama eventually won 4-2. Amakom urged Adoato 2-1 in the other semi-final game to set a final date with Bantama on Sunday. Amakom’s qualification was largely made possible by Marvin Owusu, who hit brace on the day to render Kwadwo Taylor’s goal inadequate.
The annual Ashantifest was initiated by MTN Ghana to engage its cherished existing and potential subscribers in the Ashanti Region due to the absence of any markedly big festival cutting across macro /micro levels across all segments within identified communities.
