President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG).
The MP who is also Majority Leader in Parliament, will by this appointment, replace Herbert Krapa, who is now Minister of State at the Energy Ministry.
The nomination was announced in a letter dated July 16, 2024 and signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President.
The letter, addressed to the Energy Minister said to: “take the necessary steps to give effect to the President’s nomination in accordance with the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and the Regulations of the Company.”
Mr. Afenyo-Markin took over as Majority Leader from the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who formerly occupied the position until Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu resigned his position as the Majority Leader on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
