The Sanctuary Montessori – fastest-growing international school in the Western Region – announced its 10th anniversary celebration this year with transformative initiatives aimed at improving the lives of its stakeholders.

In June, the milestone was marked by successful completion of the ‘Let There Be Light’ project, which included the installation of 32 new streetlights and awarding scholarships to two brilliant but underprivileged students from Mpatado community within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.

Lighting-up Mpatado

In an effort to enhance safety and security within the community, The Sanctuary Montessori installed 27 LED streetlights and five solar streetlights at key locations across Mpatado. This initiative not only addresses the critical issue of inadequate lighting, which has posed safety risks and hindered economic activities, but also ensures the community remains illuminated even during power outages.

Empowering through education

As part of the celebration, The Sanctuary Montessori awarded full scholarships to two deserving students from Mpatado. These scholarships cover tuition fees, books, stationery, uniforms, footwear, meals and all other necessary school supplies. This initiative, aims to break down financial barriers and provide students with the opportunity to pursue their education at The Sanctuary Montessori – from upper primary until they complete Junior High School (JHS).

Community engagement and support

The success of this project was made possible through collaborative efforts of school leaders, teachers, parents, students and representatives from the Mpatado community. The project’s implementation involved meticulous planning, fundraising activities and community engagement. The chief of Mpatado and other local leaders played a significant role in supporting and facilitating the project’s execution.

A celebration of transformation

In June 2024, the school community with key stakeholder representatives from Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Mpatado community gathered for a commissioning durbar to celebrate the project’s completion. The event honoured scholarship recipients and officially commissioned the new streetlights. Bible verses and quotes on repentance were also fixed on each streetlight pole, reflecting the school’s mission to share Christian values and bring hope to the community.
