The management of B&FT has paid a courtesy call on the management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), as part of efforts to enhance the working relationship between the two entities.
B&FT’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Godwin Acquaye, led the B&FT team. Other team members are Dr. Daniel Amateye Anim, Director of Operations and Charles Ekow Panyin Atkins, Events Manager.
Dr. Acquaye underscored the significant role of GRA in the development discourse of the country and encouraged the management of GRA to intensify tax education campaigns for the citizens to appreciate the voluntary need to honour their tax obligations.
He also lauded the GRA for deploying tax compliance mechanisms and the team’s determination to mobilize revenue for national development. Further, he took the advantage of the meeting to congratulate the new Commissioner General, Julie Essiam, for being the first woman to serve in this position.
Dr. Acquaye in his concluding remarks, thanked the GRA team for keeping the working relationship intact and promised to make B&FT’s platforms available to the GRA to disseminate relevant tax information to the public.
Madam Julie Essiam, on her part, lauded B&FT for availing its platforms in the dissemination of relevant tax information to the public. She indicated that, under her leadership, Team GRA will further enhance the working relationship between the two institutionit’s
Further, Madam Essiam indicated that she will stand on the existing systems and structures laid down by his predecessors to improve upon revenue generation.
She also promised to intensify tax education and therefore requested B&FT to dedicate a column for such publication.
Dr. Anim, the Director of Operations suggested that tax educational material should not be too technical to enable non-technical persons to understand and appreciate the import of the message.
The Commissioner, Domestic Tax Revenue Division, Edward Apenteng Gyamerah, added that tax compliance is critical in revenue mobilisation and therefore tax education is necessary in this direction. According to him, currently, tax compliance is below 30 percent, a phenomenon that needs to be addressed.
Madam Pearl Nana Darko, Commissioner, Support Service Division and Emmanuel Emmanuel G. Ohene, Deputy Commissioner, Operations Customs Division, reiterated the need to tell their success story for the citizens to appreciate the role of GRA.
They therefore urged B&FT to assist in this direction. Other members of the GRA team present at the meeting were Mr. Daniel Edisi, Deputy Commissioner Operation 1 Domestic Tax Revenue Division, Amankwah-Bonsu Clement, Commissioner-General’s Secretariat, Dzinunya Mawuli, Chief Revenue Officer, Sophia Brandful Godwyll, Chief Revenue Officer, Felicia Apaloo-Nuworkpor , Chief Revenue Officer, and Annette Kwoffie, Principal Revenue Officer all from the Communication and Public Affairs Department.
