Otumfuo charges MTN CEO to invest in digital skills

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged telecommunication network giant MTN Ghana, to invest in digital skills of Ghanaians.

Such human capital development intervention, the Ashanti king believes will go a long way to enhance the economic viabilities of Ghanaians in this era of information superhighway.

Otumfuo made these pronouncements when the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN, Stephen Blewett together with the management of MTN paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The occasion was to formerly introduce the new CEO to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Imploring the new CEO to stay on mission in the corporate responsibilities of the telecommunication firm, the Otumfuo told Mr Blewett and his entourage that it was prudent for MTN to invest in Ghana, and urged them to continue supporting what he (Otumfuo) is doing.

In an interview with Journalists, the new CEO of the MTN, Stephen Blewett, noted it was a privilege and important to visit the respected Ashanti King and thereby listening to the wise counsel and aspirations of the King in his line of duty as the CEO of MTN.

Mr Blewett told journalists that MTN would be supportive and would continue to assist Ashanti and improve their network and reiterated that, every Ghanaian deserves the benefits of good network and would address every prevailing network challenge.

On her part, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at the MTN, Madam Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, disclosed that was symbolic and important for MTN to formerly introduce their new Boss to the Asantehene, since he assumed office in April this year.

Madam Afriyie Wiafe said MTN is determined to work with the residents of Ashanti and Ghana, as stakeholders and partners, underscoring that MTN has been supportive to Small and Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through Ashantifest, adding that MTN has been investing in Digital Training and sensitizing customers and the public on how to protect themselves from Momo fraud.

Giving wind of an upcoming event, she revealed that, next month has been earmarked as SMEs month, targeting Small, Micro and medium Businesses, where MTN will assist them on how to use digital and the available relevant technologies to improve their businesses.
