GHACEM Foundation committed to supporting health & education

Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the GHACEM Cement Foundation has on behalf of the Board and Management of Ghacem Ltd. assured of its commitment to supporting health and educational infrastructure of the country and has therefore implored all stakeholders from these two sectors to partner the company by bringing genuine applications to benefit from the free cement.

He said the company has observed with grave concern low applications annually from the Northern Regions (Northern, North East, Savanna, Upper East and Upper West) as such the need to sensitize people located in these areas on the genuine application method and to partner stakeholders to serve as ambassadors for them to benefit from this benevolence from the foremost cement manufacturer.

Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI was speaking at the 2023/2024 Ghacem Cement Foundation Northern sector awards ceremony which was held last week in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital where educational and health institutions in the Northern part of the country were given 9,850 bags for their various projects.

The Ghacem Cement Foundation (GCF) was set up in 2002 by Ghacem Ltd. to assist in the infrastructural development of health and educational infrastructure in deprived communities of the country. The foundation annually gives free cement bags to institutions across the country grouped into Southern (Central, Western, Western North, Volta, Oti, Eastern and Greater Accra Region) and Northern (Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Bono East, Bono, Ahafo and Ashanti Region) sectors as a support package for the institutions which are currently undertaken various infrastructural projects. The foundation has since its inception given a total of 700,000 bags valued at Ghc 54 million to these deprived communities across the country.

The 2023/2024 edition/donation ceremony commenced on 20th May 2024 in Koforidua, the Eastern regional capital where health and educational Institutions in the Southern sector of the country were given 13,840 bags at a ceremony in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

Mode of Application

Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI seized the opportunity to brief the gathering on the mode of application which includes; an application letter from the education or health facility. A cover letter from the Municipal or District Assembly. A cover letter from the Ghana health service or Ghana education service in the Municipality or District.

Two pictures of the new project or rehabilitation that has gotten to lintel level signed by the Municipal assembly, Ghana education or Ghana health service lead. Applicants are to apply for one project at a time.

Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI implored beneficiaries, past and present to use the Ghacem cement products always as they also contribute to the success of the Ghacem Cement Foundation.

The Commercial Director of Ghacem, Mr. Kwasi Kyere who spoke on behalf of management said Ghacem see the beneficiary institutions as partners in progress. “It is our hope that the cement you receive will be transformed into structures that stand as symbols of hope, resilience, and progress for generations to come. Your efforts in utilizing these resources effectively will be crucial in shaping the future of your communities.

GHACEM, he assured is committed to continuing this journey of support and development. “We will keep listening to your needs, innovating, and finding ways to make a positive impact. Our mission is to ensure that every bag of cement we donate contributes to a stronger, better, and more sustainable Ghana”.

The company, he added is committed to continuing this journey of support and development by enhancing its CSR with other novel activities including; a partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Department of Physics on a sponsored research project to improve the radio-mechanical shielding properties of the Ghacem Cement products and also the Ghacem Mobile Academy that trains cement users across the country on the usage of cement for optimum output. It is in this regard that we wish to inform the general public that the recently launched new cement; the Masonry cement (SUPERPLAST) type M is specifically designed for plastering and block laying only. We will continue to care about the environment hence will make conscious effort to the reduction of CO2 in both our Tema and Takoradi plants.

Mr. Frank Antwi Agyapong, Head of the Ghacem Cement Foundation Secretariat who doubles as the Lead, Marketing & PR of Ghacem in an interview reported that the secretariat has had a good year with the applications except for the low turn out and suspected fraudulent applications that keeps coming from the Northern Regions. “We expect more applications for 2025/2026 going forward especially those from the North for us to be allocated more bags to boost development in the country”.
