The 2024 edition of Ghana Digital and Innovation Week (GDIW) has been launched with the theme ‘Innovate Together: Collaborating for Digital Transformation and Impact.’
This year’s event, set for October 2nd to 4th at the Accra International Conference Centre, emphasizes the power of collaboration in driving innovation and digital transformation across Ghana.
It promises to be more than just a conference as it will be a dynamic ecosystem gathering designed to inspire action, foster commitments, and celebrate successes in the digital space.
Building on the momentum of the past three years, the 2024 Host Consortium—comprising the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP), Ghana Hubs Network (GHN), and Impact Investing Ghana (IIGh)—alongside partners, outlined the ambitious plans for this national event.
Chairman of GHN, Yaw Adu-Gyamfi, announced that GDIW 2024 will begin with regional events across Ghana to decentralize the impact of digitalization and innovation.
Chief Executive Officer of IIGh, Amma Lartey emphasized the significance of expanding GDIW from trilateral to multilateral collaboration, engaging global and local partners for an impactful digital dialogue.
She further highlighted the transformative potential of digital technology through exhibitions, debates, dialogues, actions, commitments, and launches.
Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at NEIP, Clifford Bansah on the other hand expressed enthusiasm for the innovative content expected at GDIW 2024, anticipating significant contributions to Ghana’s development.
Head of Project at the GIZ Digital Transformation Centre (DTC), David Robert also described GDIW as “a window into Ghana’s digital future,” underscoring the event’s African and international significance.
For his part, Oliver Boachie, Special Advisor to the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, praised GDIW’s growth and acknowledged MGA Consulting Ghana Limited’s logistical support.
Dr. Samuel Antwi Gyekyi, Director of Research, Statistics, and Information Management Directorate (RSIM) at the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization (MoCD), took the opportunity to reiterate government’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure, fostering innovation, and promoting digital literacy.
“GDIW is a testament to our collective achievement and our commitment to a future where digital innovation drives progress and prosperity for all Ghanaians,” he stated.
At the launch, the application portal for session hosts was opened, inviting academic institutions, technology Tech companies, startups, technology Tech hubs, government agencies, and international development agencies are to submit their ideas for GDIW 2024 via gdiw.com.gh.
GDIW is supported by the trilateral partners including Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ); Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV) through the Embassy of Israel in Ghana; the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI); and the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization.
