MTN to assist selected SHS battling with water crisis

Telecommunication giant MTN has launched its Y’ellow Care celebration with a mission to help thirty selected senior high schools and equip other people with employable skills.

Boosted by the urge of volunteerism, the Y’ellow Care celebration, which has coincided with the 30-years anniversary of MTN, will last for thirty days.

This celebration would be staged in far-flung communities, with selected senior high schools that will benefit from the event.

Launching the one-month long event under the theme: “Education for Rural and Remote Communities – Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow.”

Mr. Nii Adotey Mingle, the MTN’s General Manager for the Northern District, noted that per their thirty –years of existence they intend to celebrate Y’ellow Care for thirty days.

This celebration, according to Mr. Mingle will see MTN drilling boreholes in thirty second cycle institutions with an initiative called ‘Quench and Connect’, and expressed optimism that such intervention would help students to focus on their studies.

Among some of the beneficiaries are:  Christ the King, Bolga Girls Senior High School, Sunyani SHS, Ahafoman SHS among others.

He said: “Given our 30th anniversary and 30 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN Ghana volunteers will drill 30 internal boreholes in 30 senior high schools in a project dubbed ‘Quench and Connect’ for our main Campaign. ·

He emphasized that the boreholes would be drilled in selected schools across the 16 regions facing water crises. He therefore hoped that providing these boreholes would alleviate the burden on the beneficiary schools and allow students to focus on their studies.

He noted that students in the said schools shall also be taught about Artificial Intelligence and Robotics as an added support fo the Y’ellow Care development support initiative.
