MTN reaffirms its commitment to lead digital solutions for Africa’s progress at maiden 3i Africa Summit in Accra

The leadership of MTN Ghana has reinforced the business’ commitment to leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress at the maiden edition of the 3i Africa Summit held in Accra. The focus of the summit was on Innovation, Investment and Impact.

The theme for the summit is in line with MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategic intent anchored on building the largest and most valuable platform business with a clear focus on Africa.



The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, highlighted the example of MoMo as an innovation that has significantly impacted Ghana’s finance ecosystem, emphasizing the consistent investment in infrastructure and awareness.

He urged everyone to contribute to shaping an Africa that not only thrives in the digital age but also serves as a model of inclusive and sustainable development.

Sereign Dioum, CEO of Group FinTech, discussed “FinTech for inclusion: Pushing Beyond Innovation to Impact” with Dr. Kwame Oppong, the Head of FinTech operations at the Bank of Ghana.

Sereign appreciated the Bank of Ghana’s support for the growth of Mobile Money in Ghana and urged the central bank to support the provision of advanced services on the MoMo platform. He emphasized Mobile Money Limited’s strategy as a platform player in the Mobile Money space and its commitment to supporting other Fintechs and banks through the Open API.

Shaibu Haruna, CEO of Mobile Money Limited (MML), participated in a panel discussion on “Banking and FinTech Intersection: Balancing Innovation, Risks, and Inclusion.”

He emphasized the need for all players to work together to impact communities, individuals, and businesses and announced MML’s openness to collaborate with all Fintechs and banks to build an inclusive ecosystem.

Angela Mensah Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, joined a panel to discuss “Digital Micro-pensions Services for an Equitable and Inclusive World.”

She highlighted the crucial role of telcos in designing products and services based on customer behavior and mentioned MTN MoMo’s partnerships with companies offering pension services.

Sylvia Otuo Acheampong, MML’s Head of Products and Services, participated in a panel discussing “Africa’s FinTech Revolution: Charting the Course for the Next Decade.”

She shared insights on the future of MoMo, emphasizing payments, remittances, agritech, and simplifying transactions for customers. She also mentioned the challenges in partnering with banks for lending and highlighted the future of technology in AI, Blockchain, and Cloud.

Chief Digital Officer for MTN Ghana, Dario Bianchi, joined a panel to discuss the topic ‘Shaping an Equitable Digital Future for Africa.’ He indicated that we need to move beyond USSD and explore more digital solutions that are user friendly for all regardless of their disabilities.

He spoke about MTN Ghana’s ongoing project that seeks to redesign the my MTN App with the use of AI to make it user friendly for visually impaired people. He also indicated that through collaboration between FinTechs, financial institutions and the regulatory bodies, the ecosystem will be able to design the right solutions to make digital services more accessible.
