In her speech at the launch event, Rev. Hedwig Naa Tolloo Quist highlighted the journey behind the creation of the book, noting that her inspiration for documenting the experiences of the watchwomen of Ghana, was driven by a passion for social holiness and national prosperity.
“I did not embark on this journey to write a book…’UNMASKING THE WATCHWOMEN OF GHANA’ emerged from a desire to share my encounter with a significant and unfolding phenomenon in our time and within our community,” she stated.
She also emphasized the impact of her research on the charismatic prayer movement in Ghana’s Christian history, saying: “While studying the charismatic prayer movement in Ghana’s Christian history, I delved into the role of Christian women in nation-building. The experiences I encountered were so impactful that I felt compelled to share them with others, particularly those in positions of influence and the younger generation.”
She noted the book’s significance in fostering dialogue on the role of prayer in Ghana’s socio-economic and political landscape.
She further stressed the importance of prayer and advocacy for national prosperity, citing Jeremiah 29:7, “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
