2024 GIA educational seminar ends

A two-day educational seminar organised and hosted by the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) ended on Thursday, at the La Palm Royal Hotel in Accra; last week. This is the second edition of the annual educational seminars of the insurance industry.

The theme for this year’s seminar is “Advancing excellence through collective empowerment”, aims to elevate standards in the insurance industry by fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The event gathered expects from insurance, reinsurance, information technology, finance and accounting fields which represented various insurance and reinsurance and allied institutions in Ghana with seasoned resource drawn from far and the near who came to deliver taught provoking topics.

About 47-member insurance and reinsurance companies and over 250 participants were in attendance. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event on Tuesday, Mr. Seth Aklatsi, President of the GIA emphasized on the usage of information technology in the industry to grow.

Other speakers including the CEO of the association, Dr. Kingsley Kwesi Kwabahson and Mrs. Mercy Boampong, a board member of GIA and Managing director of Serene Insurance Company also stressed on Artificial Intelligence.

Fifteen topics on emerging trends were delivered on the opening session which came from twenty speakers and facilitators. Some of the topics include “Life Insurance is not bought but sold”, a Rebuttable Cliché in a Technological Era (Mr. Jerry N. Halm, Customer Service Expert), “Life Reinsurance and Treaty Development –(I)” (Mrs. Felicia Oye Armah, Head, Life Ghana Reinsurance PLC) and “Enhancing IT Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance in the Insurance Sector” (Dr. Orlando Olumide Odejide, Director, Panoramic Synergy Enterprises LTD. PSE). These were topics tackled on Wednesday, the first day of the seminar.

The following topics were handled in the afternoon “Building a Sustainable Insurance Market through collaboration” (Mr. CC Bruce, Life Insurance Expert), “Life Reinsurance and Treaty Development (II)”  (Mrs. Felicia Oye Armah, Head, Life Ghana Reinsurance PLC), “Enhancing IT Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance in the Insurance Sector (II)” (Dr. Orlando Olumide Odejide, Director, Panoramic Synergy Enterprises LTD. PSE) and “IFRS 17 Implentation: Meeting the External Auditors’ Expectations (II)” (Mr. Richard Omari, Senior Manager Deloitte Ghana).
