At the recent University of Development Studies (UDS) congregation, Prof. Francis K.E. Nunoo, the Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, emphasised the vital role of graduates in driving sustainable development through the effective application of acquired skills and knowledge.
Addressing the graduates, Prof. Nunoo underscored the importance of innovation, compassion and service to humanity in leveraging their expertise to tackle complex national challenges.
He urged them to embrace every opportunity for growth, challenging the status quo and continuing their quest for knowledge and excellence beyond academia.
With a total of 2,861 graduates from various disciplines receiving certificates, including undergraduate degrees, diplomas, master’s degrees and PhDs, Prof. Nunoo highlighted the wealth of specialised expertise and problem-solving abilities present among Ghanaian graduates.
He emphasised that if graduates effectively utilise their skills, they can significantly contribute to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
The congregation, themed ‘Accelerated University Development through Proactiveness and Coordination to Promote Cordiality, Efficiency and Effective Time Management’, brought together stakeholders from academia and beyond to celebrate the occasion.
Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan, the Vice Chancellor of UDS, reiterated the university’s commitment to delivering quality education and producing graduates who not only excel academically, but also embody virtues such as humility, honesty, objectivity and tolerance.
He appealed to the government for special support to accelerate infrastructure development and enhance programmes like the Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP) to ensure UDS remains competitive globally.
The Vice Chancellor commended the staff for their dedication despite limited resources, noting their efforts to improve staff capacity through local and international conferences and workshops.
UDS, he emphasised, has distinguished itself in higher education development, contributing significantly to the nation’s progress.
