SN ANKU IP FIRM, one of Africa’s premier Intellectual Property (IP) law firms, takes monumental strides in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship with its pioneering initiative to train young entrepreneurs in Intellectual Property management. As the world celebrates World Intellectual Property Day 2024, SN ANKU IP FIRM reaffirms its commitment to empowering the next generation of innovators and business leaders through education and support on IP.

Intellectual Property (IP) rights serve as indispensable pillars for fostering innovation, creativity, and economic prosperity. By safeguarding inventions, designs, and creative works, IP enables individuals and businesses to leverage their ideas for social and economic advancement.

Recognizing the transformative potential of IP in driving innovation and profitability, SN ANKU IP FIRM is embarking on a mission to equip entrepreneurs, innovators, inventors, Business Associations, Innovation and Tech Hubs among others with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration to harness the power of IP effectively.

In commemoration of World IP Day, the Firm has partnered with the Oxford Africa Women Leadership Institute, a global non-profit organization dedicated to building sustainable women-led businesses to hold a capacity building seminar on IP with scores of women entrepreneurs exploring the intersection of IP, entrepreneurship and the Sustainable Development Goals under the theme IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future With Innovation and Creativity for Young Women Entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the seminar, Sarah Norkor Anku, Global Managing Partner at the Firm said “At SN ANKU IP FIRM, we believe in the transformative power of Intellectual Property to drive innovation and to catalyse economic growth for entrepreneurs, the innovation ecosystem and to enable economies on the African continent to achieve sustainable development.  This is why we have committed to working with the entire ecosystem including Business Associations, Innovation and Tech hubs across the continent to demystify IP and to help our young innovators, especially women entrepreneurs, to navigate the complexities of IP in a way that enables them to derive full commercial value from their ideas and work across every sector”.

David Jeng, a WIPO Consultant and partner at SN ANKU IP FIRM in The Gambia led a session on the intersection of IP and the SDGs, highlighting the critical role IP plays as an incentive for innovation and creativity, which in turn are key to the success of the SDGs.

The seminar empowered young women entrepreneurs to gain comprehensive understanding of their IP rights, the thematic link between IP and the SDGs, emphasizing how IP can contribute to addressing global challenges. Participants also gained practical insights and were provided with the tools for protecting and commercialise their innovative ideas and creations.

The Firm also launched its ground-breaking Academy – the SNA IP Academy to provide on demand training on IP for all interested participants available at academy.snankuipfirm.com.

The partnership with the Oxford Africa Women Leadership Institute underscores SN ANKU IP FIRM’s commitment to advancing women’s entrepreneurship and fostering sustainable business practices.

Odelia Ntiamoah, Global Director at the Oxford Africa Women Leadership Institute, emphasized the importance of such partnerships in advancing women entrepreneurs: “Partnerships between organizations like SN ANKU IP FIRM and the Oxford Africa Women Leadership Institute are essential for creating opportunities and empowering women entrepreneurs to thrive in today’s competitive landscape. By providing access to resources, knowledge, and networks, we can drive meaningful change and foster the growth of sustainable women-led businesses.”
