The European Union (EU) delegation to Ghana has launched its annual ‘Europe Month’ commemoration with a key focus on youth empowerment and skills development.
As a key development partner of the Ghana government, this all-important event on the calendar of the EU is lined up with several activities to ensure skills development and youth empowerment.
The celebration is slated to commence on the 9th of May 2024 and is well-designed to highlight the importance of youth and skills development in the European Union-Ghana partnership.
Key among the activities lined up is a boxing exhibition at the Bukom Boxing Arena, under the theme “Diplo-Rumble”, with the headline fight being a bout between EU Ambassador, Irchad Razaaly, and Ghanaian boxing icon, Azumah Nelson, on 4th May 2024.
This event will showcase the boxing talent of young athletes in Bukom while promoting youth empowerment through sports.
Other activities include the EU and the government’s annual partnership dialogue, chaired by Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This dialogue, slated for the 6th of May, will bring together the ambassadors of EU member states residing in Ghana, with representatives of the various government institutions, such as the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
The dialogue helps to assess the progress made on topics like trade, security, and sustainable development, intending to deepen Ghana-EU relations even further in the coming years.
The annual Europe Day Reception, held on 9th May at the EU Ambassador’s Residence, remains one of the largest diplomatic gatherings in Accra. This year’s edition will showcase the strength of EU-Ghana relations in an evening filled with top entertainment and music performances.
The reception will enjoy the participation of senior ministers and officials, the diplomatic corps based in Accra, traditional rulers, development partners, private sector representatives, civil society and other key partners
A scholarship fair will display a variety of exciting scholarship programmes offered by European universities. This is an excellent opportunity for ambitious Ghanaian students to explore options for pursuing higher education in Europe.
“This year’s commemoration will conclude with a networking reception on 24th May to celebrate the bilateral partnership between the EU and Ghana on education and skills. The EU-Ghana pact for skills programme is a landmark agreement that signifies a partnership between the European Union and Ghana to invest in the future of Ghanaian youth,” EU Ambassador, Irchad Razaaly, said.
