Students and staff members of Accra Academy Senior High School (SHS) received a dose of inspiration from Dr. Rosemond Aboagye, Director at Rand Medical Imaging and Health Systems, who shared her remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a specialist pediatric radiologist at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).
Dr. Aboagye, who once assisted her mother in selling kenkey in Korle-Gonno, advised that students should not let their financial backgrounds deter them from academic excellence. She encouraged them to use their challenging circumstances as fuel to propel their ambitions, highlighting her own journey as proof of what perseverance and determination can achieve.
Addressing the students, Dr. Aboagye stressed the importance of prioritising academics, especially as they prepare for their final exams. She urged them to focus on their studies and sacrifice temporary pleasures for long-term success, emphasizing the significance of consistent effort and dedication.
Regarding the upcoming West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Dr. Aboagye likened it to a personal world cup for the students, urging them to put in the necessary effort and burn the midnight oil to excel.
The impact of Dr. Aboagye’s message was palpable among the students, with final year General Arts Student, Dennis Asante, expressing heightened motivation to pursue his dreams of becoming a legal practitioner after hearing her success story. He echoed the sentiments of his peers, acknowledging the importance of such inspirational messages in keeping them focused and motivated.
Dr. Aboagye’s mission to inspire and motivate young adults extends beyond Accra Academy SHS, as she embarks on a schools tour to reach more students across the country. With a vision to empower the youth to never give up on their dreams, she is committed to expanding her outreach to more high schools, provided with the necessary resources.
