Managing Director of Cocoa Processing Company Ltd, PLC, Kojo Ofori-Safo, has indicated that the company has produced more than enough chocolate and cocoa based products for the Ghanaian market and beyond.
According to him, the company aims to produce about 3,000 metric tonnes of chocolate this year translating into over 40 million bars of chocolate, compared to the 1,500 metric tonnes produced last year.
Speaking in an interview with the B&FT ahead of the National Chocolate Day celebration, which is marked every February 14, Mr. Ofori-Safo urged the general public to take advantage of the season to consume domestically made chocolate.
As part of the celebration, he said, the company is collaborating with the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) to serve over 5,000 children with its Alltime cocoa drink. All patients under the Mental Health Authority will also be served with cocoa products, while there will be an exhibition on the campus of the Accra Technical University.
At the consumer service centre at the premises of the factory in Tema, Mr. Ofori-Safo said a stand has been set to satisfy patrons of all the company’s products.
Touching on the essence of the celebration, he underscored the role of the National Chocolate Day in promoting domestic consumption of cocoa products.
Apart from the celebrations, Mr. Ofori-Safo disclosed that the company will soon introduce new packaging for the Alltime and the Royal Natural Cocoa Powder brands
“As we are creating this awareness for national chocolate consumption, I appealed to the well-to-do in society to patronize and distribute chocolate to the less privileged,” he added.
