The second edition of the ‘Women of Valour’ conference has been launched, unveiling renowned Ghanaian filmmaker, Shirley Frimpong Manso; famous Nigerian actress, Rita Dominic and South African award-winning media personality, Bonang Matheba as guest speakers.
The Women of Valour (WoV), a creation of award-winning broadcast journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah, which began last year, is an empowerment project that seeks to recognise and highlight women with unique stories of courage.
It also seeks to provide platforms where women through their unwavering strength, passion, and commitment inspire each other while paving the way for the younger folks to dream big and strive for greatness.
This year’s conference will be held on March,7 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium at 9:00 am in line with the annual International Women’s Day.
By popular request, this year’s event will again feature powerful presentations from the founder of Ignite Youth Empowerment Initiative, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and the Chief Executive Officer of SG Etiquette Consulting, Sika Goka.
The duo presented on ‘Wearing Your Confidence’ and ‘Becoming A Quintessential Lady’ respectively in the previous edition.
Nana Aba Anamoah expressed confidence in the selected speakers, stating that: “Our 2024 Women of Valour have shattered stereotypes, broken barriers, and paved the way for future generations. From trailblasing leaders to fearless activists and change-makers, these women have left an indelible mark on many.
Through their unwavering strength, passion, and commitment, they have inspired countless others to dream big and strive for greatness. Their stories serve as a reminder that no obstacle is too great and that with determination and perseverance, we can overcome any challenge”.
She therefore assured attendees that this year’s event will accommodate a larger audience, guaranteeing a more inclusive experience for all.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Switzerland Ambassador to Ghana, Simone Giger lauded the initiative noting that she has seen the incredible commitment and resilience of women in the country to succeed despite all challenges, adding that the platform will inspire more to follow suit.
She added that for the country to attain greater equality on a large scale, women needs to work together, forging alliances and being deliberate about it.
“What Ghana needs for the advancement of greater equality on the large scale, is women working together and forging alliances and being deliberate about it. I love this platform as a deliberate avenue for women to receive inspiration and do something wonderful together. Alone, we can do so little, together, we can do so much,” she said.
