‘Renewed Woman’ is an annual event hosted by Lady Mae and organised by Emerge New Woman (ENW), a registered non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting and enhancing mental health support for women.
The theme for Renewed Woman 2023 was ‘Release’. Focusing on personal transformation and economic reintegration, it was held on December 26, 2023 at the Dubois Pan African Centre at Cantoments in Accra.
The annual event offers a transformative gathering for women, providing crucial mental wellness support through psycho-education, therapeutic interventions and advisory services.
The primary goal of the Renewed Woman event in December was to inspire and empower women to be resilient, promoting personal growth and emotional freedom.
In her address, founder and CEO of Emerge New Woman, Lady Mae, said the theme resonates profoundly with her particularly during the Yuletide because the word ‘release’ holds immense power.
“It is about letting go of the old to make space for the new, shedding layers that no longer serve us and embracing the beauty of transformation.”
Lady Mae indicated that acknowledging and freeing oneself from emotional burdens is an active process that involves accepting and allowing emotions to pass without clinging onto them. She told the gathering that releasing energies prevents emotional build-ups and reduces the risk of mental health issues.
Guest speaker of the event, Stacy Amoateng – a lawyer and former broadcaster, urged women experiencing emotional distress to look at the bright side of things, dream big and fly high. She impressed on them that marriage shouldn’t necessarily limit their scope to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
Dr. Yvonne Otubea Otchere, a clinical psychologist, also urged women to develop life skills that they can fall on in order not to be too dependent on their male partners. She noted that it is important for them to know their temperament, weaknesses and personality in their relationship with people.
Through the Seed Fund Program, the event supports women in achieving financial independence. By offering seed funds, mentoring and training, ENW empowers women to establish their businesses and become economically self-sufficient.
Renewed Woman provides a safe and supportive environment where women can express their feelings and experiences. It encourages them to speak up and seek help when needed, ultimately fostering mental and emotional freedom.
