The Efua Sutherland Children’s Park was the place to be on Boxing Day as it was the grounds for the 2023 edition of The Maggi Waakye Summit.
The event – basically a waakye festival was dedicated to showcasing and celebrating this most popular indigenous dish but more importantly promote Ghanaian gastronomy through an unparalleled tasting adventure.
For organizers, it was an incredible celebration where flavor met fun with the inner foodie in the thousands of patrons coming alive.
Over 50 vendors redefining the waakye experience were on show, including Sister’s Waakye- Adabraka, Fulera Waakye- Madina, Rockz Waakye- Cantonments, Anadwo Waakye- East Legon, and Hajia Waakye Boutique- Madina.
“One of our brands is Maggi. This is what we love to do. Look at how people are connecting over this important food we call waakye. People are enjoying so we will continue to be a partner of the waakye because what best can we highlight as a country than food that is highly nutritious”, said Deborah Kwablah, Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Manager at Nestle Ghana.
With the variety of amazing flavors, attendees, and unforgettable moment, The Maggi Waakye Summit was of particular significance because Ghanaian cuisine has long been a source of pride and satisfaction.
The Waakye Festival brought together family, friends, colleagues, and schoolmates, all of whom had a good time while their taste buds were treated to the popular local delicacy.
The fun was interspersed with brass band music, cooking tutorial session, contest and giveaways, podcast, music performances, video games and a host of other social activities.
“This is just the sixth Waakye Summit and it has been huge. So, you can only imagine the seventh edition, it will be bigger, better, electrifying and fun”, Deborah Kwablah added.
The Waakye festival is an annual event where people gather to patronize various waakye sellers and to bond over food.
