EduSpots, a Ghana-based community-led education charity committed to empowering local volunteers known as “Catalysts” to drive positive change through 40 education spaces named ‘Spots’, is excited to announce its upcoming national conference scheduled to take place in Accra From January 3rd to 6th, 2024.
This significant gathering will bring together EduSpots’ volunteers, partners, advisors, friends, and broader supporters to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of selected Catalysts who will be graduating from the first year of the Ignite Programme and receiving awards of recognition.
The conference will bring together 80 dedicated local Catalysts from across most regions in Ghana in Accra for a two-day collaborative training experience. This training will empower Catalysts with the skills to create and facilitate local events at their ‘Spots,’ reaching over 250 local Catalysts who collectively impact an estimated 10,000+ learners. Additionally, the conference will engage Catalysts in EduSpots’ strategic 5-10 year plan and include safeguarding training for Catalysts to implement at their Spots.
In May 2023, EduSpots launched the Ignite Programme, a groundbreaking initiative that empowered over 250 Catalysts through collaborative training in areas such as early years education, creative literacy for junior high school students, STEM & sustainability education, girls’ empowerment, and Spot leadership. Following this initiative, Catalysts rolled out these areas in their communities, engaging in monthly challenges and community-led activities.
As the midpoint of the two-year Ignite Programme approaches, EduSpots is set to host a National Conference in January 2024. This conference will serve as a platform to celebrate the successes of the Catalysts in their communities, featuring a mid-point graduation ceremony and an annual awards event. Additionally, the conference will equip the most committed Catalysts with the skills needed to lead effective ‘ReIgnite’ events at their Spots.
The conference’s final night will be a graduation and awards night celebration, inviting partners and broader supporters to join in commemorating EduSpots’ impactful work over the past eight years. The Keynote speaker for the night will be Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana, Quiz Mistress of the popular National Science and Math Quiz, and founder of the Elsie Kaufmann Foundation.
Mohammed Fuseini, an EduSpots’ Catalyst in Dulugu, Bolgatanga commented: “Apart from all the excitement from meeting all the volunteers again and learning from them, this conference will give me the first opportunity to know Accra, our capital, and I am excited to meet Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, who is a great inspiration especially to the girls in the EcoSTEM club at my Spot. I feel blessed to be part of EduSpots.”
Miss Catherine Davison, EduSpots CEO commented: “This is the first time in eight years of our existence, that our most committed volunteers will be coming together to celebrate their successes with partners and supporters, alongside engaging in further enhanced leadership training, enabling them to drive further change at their Spots.”
