The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has launched its Women’s Mentorship Series, an initiative aimed at providing a structured mentoring programme to support and empower women within the ministry.
In her keynote remarks, Deputy Minister for Finance, Abena Osei-Asare, highlighted the significance of the launch. “This is quite a milestone in the journey toward professional empowerment and upliftment of women in the ministry,” she stated.
The mentorship series stands as a testament to MoF’s forward-looking approach and belief in the potential of its female staff. It will serve as a conveyor belt to develop generations of strong and competent women leaders.
Ms. Osei-Asare expressed gratitude to the leadership of MoF, including Chief Director Eva Mends, for their role in bringing the vision for the mentorship series to fruition. She also acknowledged distinguished guests such as Madam Stella Agyenim of the Public Services Commission and MoF Director Felicia Ashley.
In reflecting on MoF’s history, the Deputy Minister noted the ministry has long been a place where strong and competent women have thrived across generations. However, she questioned whether “good old natural evolution” alone could be relied on to produce the best outcomes.
The mentorship series represents an intentional effort to incubate women’s leadership. By creating a platform for learning and skills transfer, the initiative will unleash the boundless potential of MoF’s female staff.
According to the deputy minister, research shows that mentorship leads to greater productivity, job satisfaction, organisational commitment and career success. As such, the series will benefit both the mentees and the ministry as a whole.
She encouraged mentees to fully embrace the opportunities presented to them. “Your potential is boundless; and with collective support, we will create an environment that will enable you to grow and glow,” Osei-Asare remarked.
The deputy minister expressed confidence that the mentorship series, along with planned office renovations and human resource improvements, will strengthen MoF’s female leadership for generations to come.
“It is a change that totally guards the transformation of our ministry, economy and country. It is not just important; it is indispensable,” she stated.
