AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has partnered the Obuasi East and West Municipality Assemblies and Akrofuom District Assembly to launch the 6th edition of the Obuasi Trade Show (OTS), as part of efforts to diversify the economy within the Obuasi enclave.
This year’s event will be celebrated on the theme ‘Harnessing Our Creative Potential to diversify the Local Economy of Obuasi’.
The event is expected to come off between 20th to 25th December at the Black Park in Obuasi, and seeks to be a platform for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and trade associations, among others, to showcase their products and services at affordable prices to participants.
The trade show will also serve as a hub for innovative ideas, best practices and collaborative ventures that aim to diversify Obuasi’s economy by bringing together industry leaders, entrepreneurs and decision-makers.
The event will also foster an enabling environment for participants to explore new possibilities, nurturing existing partnerships and forging new connections.
Speaking at the Press Launch for this year’s edition of the Obuasi Trade Show, Stakeholder Engagement and Land Management Superintendent-AngloGold Obuasi Mine, Edmund Oduro Agyei, said this initiative is part of AGA’s 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan which has an aspect that seeks to diversify and strengthen the economy of Obuasi and its environs.
“We recognise the importance of supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs. Through strategic partnerships and investments, we aim to stimulate the growth of various sectors within Obuasi’s local economy to nurture vibrant and self-reliant communities.
“The Obuasi Trade Show serves as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange. It encourages creativity, innovation and the exploration of untapped potential which can ultimately contribute to building a diversified and resilient economy,” he said.
District Chief Executive Officer for Akrofuom, Dr. Jonas Morris Wood, giving the keynote address emphasised that the Obuasi Trade show will not only benefit traders or businesses but also be a platform for networking where about 250 businesses will be participating.
Additionally, there will be opportunities for people in the creative industry to showcase their talent as well, as there will be fun-filled activities alongside trading.
Also, some former participants of the previous trade show shared their experience and how it has helped them with numbers in terms of business and customer reach. They therefore encouraged colleague entrepreneurs to come on board and make this year’s event a success.
