Mr. Abubakari Salifu, General Manager, Marketing and Development at Priority Insurance Company Limited, has urged commercial and private vehicle owners to embrace emerging technologies to prevent unnecessary accidents on the road in Ghana.
He raised a point that emerging technologies, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), can significantly enhance the safety of vehicles. He further explained that these systems provide features like collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, which can reduce the likelihood of accidents caused by human error.
Mr. Salifu noted that technologies like blind spot detection, rearview cameras, and 360-degree cameras also improve driver visibility and awareness of their surroundings. By eliminating blind spots and providing a comprehensive view, these technologies can help prevent accidents caused by limited visibility, particularly during maneuvers such as lane changes, parking, or reversing.
“Connected vehicle technologies, combined with infrastructure and communication systems, can optimize transportation networks and improve traffic management. By leveraging real-time data, vehicles can be better informed about traffic conditions, road hazards, and weather alerts, enabling drivers to make decisions that are more informed and avoid potential accident-prone situations,” he said during an interview with AIT TV.
The General Manager, Marketing and Business Development at Priority Insurance Company Limited added that some factors like Collision Avoidance Systems and Driver Assistance and Automation can also help reduce and prevent some accidents in Ghana.
“While we’re not quite there yet, semi-autonomous features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and self-parking systems are already available and they can aid in reducing accidents,”- he added
Mr. Abubakar concluded that, embracing emerging technologies is crucial for commercial and private vehicle owners to avoid unnecessary accidents on the road.
“Investing in advanced safety systems, improving driver awareness, optimizing traffic management, utilizing collision avoidance systems, and ultimately moving towards autonomous technologies all contribute to creating a safer road environment for everyone involved,” Salifu beseeched
