…as it strengthens partnership with B&FT

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Finance and Administration, Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Kate D. Abbeo, has urged the media spotlight the good works of local companies operating under the free zones initiative.

She indicated that some Ghanaian owned businesses operating in the free zones enclave, especially in the area of sustainability and green business, are doing tremendously well and must be highlighted to make them more competitive and also encourage others to prioritise sustainability.

Putting the spotlight on such companies will further enable them to gain national and international recognition as well as attract much-needed funding to expand their operations, she added.

“Some indigenous businesses have fared very well under the free zones initiative. Interestingly, now businesses own by women are doing extremely well, securing spots on shelves in African, European and American markets; so, local businesses are doing well and need promotion –  media support – for more global recognition,” she said.

She made this request when the management of the B&FT, Africa’s leading provider of business information, paid a courtesy visit to the GFZA in Accra, as part of efforts to further strengthen long-standing cordial relationship between the two entities.

The deputy CEO also urged the B&FT to design quarterly publications that can highlight the free zones organisations. The discussions focused on  youth owned businesses, women-led businesses under free zones, and sector specific best performers.

On behalf of the B&FT, Head of Business Development, Dr. Daniel Amateye Anim-Prempeh, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the GFZA for its commitment to partnership and support over the years.

He also took the opportunity to introduce to the authority some of the innovative initiatives that are outlined for the next year, notably the Ghana Economic Forum, Sustainability Summit, and Money Summit, and the CEOs Breakfast series, emphasising the need for collaborations.

He mentioned that sustainability and the circular economy would  be a key component of any engagement with investors in the near future. “We are most grateful for your participation in our key initiatives over the past, especially this year. As we are about to enter the next year, we hope to maintain and even take it a notch higher to create bigger impact for the greater good of the general public,” he said.

As a symbol of appreciation, the B&FT presented a citation to the authority.

Mrs. Abbeo stressed that even though the GFZA is a public entity, it operates with a private sector mindset.
