A total of 100 youth has successfully completed and graduated from a one-year intensive Youth Apprenticeship Programme organised by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine (AGA).

The beneficiaries being the third batch since the Youth Apprenticeship Programme was launched in 2020, were trained in skills such as welding and fabrication, electrical technician, and mechanical technician.

The apprentices gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience in real work environments, allowing them to gain and improve their technical abilities and industry-specific knowledge, which will serve them well in their future careers. On their part, the apprentices demonstrated exceptional determination, dedication, and passion for their chosen fields.

The Youth Apprenticeship Programme was launched to demonstrate AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to investing in the future of Obuasi youth. The training was done for these youth at no cost but to help them acquire skills to become entrepreneurial and also be gainfully employed.

The rigorous training programme, which was conducted by Mac Partners Training Institute, was done under the expert guidance of experienced instructors using state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for the 100 beneficiaries, Senior Manager – Sustainability, AGA Obuasi Mine, Emmanuel Baidoo, said AGA believes that investing in education and training of the youth in its host communities does not only enhances the employability of these individuals, but also contributes to the overall development and prosperity of Obuasi and the Ashanti Region at large.

“We are immensely proud of our partnership with the host communities through the Youth Apprenticeship Programme and the positive impact it has on the lives of our youth.

By investing in comprehensive training programs, we not only contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce but also support the economic growth of the region,” Mr. Baidoo said.

AngloGold Ashanti continues to prioritise skill-building initiatives that empower and uplift the local youth, which is part of the Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Programme of its 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).

Investing in the youth’s education and training, the Obuasi Mine reinforces its mission to create a sustainable and prosperous future for the communities in which it operates.
