GCB Bank PLC’s 70th anniversary celebrations roadshow has stormed the Ashanti Region’s capital, Kumasi, with the bank’s leadership and staff engaging key stakeholders in the region in a series of planned activities which have become the highlight of celebrations across the nation’s regions so far.
Under the theme ‘70 years of providing unrivalled financial solutions toward the socio-economic development of Ghana’, GCB Bank PLC (GCB) has embarked on a nationwide celebration that showcases its contribution to national development and recommitment to the future of Ghana.
In line with this, the celebrations in Kumasi last week Friday were highlighted by several activities including a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, by a high-powered delegation of board and management members led by Board Chairman Mr. Daniel Kwaku Tweneboah Asirifi and Managing Director Mr. Kofi Adomakoh. It also included a visit to branches, interacting with customers and staff; a radio discussion on GCB’s contributions and what it promises stakeholders for the future, hosted on Angel FM’s Morning Show; and an inspecting one of the bank’s on-going community projects – a full-sized artificial-turf football field at Kwadaso Estate, a suburb of Kumasi.
The activities continued on day-two, starting with a 5-kilometre health walk from the Kumasi Main Branch of GCB through Adum and the Suame Roundabout, ending at the Jubilee branch of GCB in Suame. This was attended by staff from all branches in Kumasi and members of some Keep-Fit Clubs – including Kwadaso Estate Keep-Fit Club, New Suame Keep-Fit Club, Wesco Keep-Fit Club and Suame Maakro Keep-Fit Club. In all, over 200 walkers covered the distance; supported by personnel of the National Ambulance Service and Ghana Police.
The health walk was followed by a health screening at the Jubilee branch by a team of medical personnel comprising medical specialists, medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists and laboratory technicians, who were on hand to screen all interested persons. The medical checks covered haemoglobin level, blood pressure, sugar levels, diabetes, malaria and breast cancer among others. In all, the medical team screened close to 300 persons.
At the medical screening, the bank’s Managing Director, Mr. Kofi Adomakoh, used the opportunity to admonish all participants, especially GCB staff, to stay healthy. “In order to build and sustain a strong bank like GCB, one essential building block is the staff; and as such, it is important that we all take our health seriously. In as much as we want to build a strong bank, we must first make sure our health is in top shape and as much as possible do our best to keep healthy,” he added.
Since the launch of GCB’s 70th anniversary celebrations in August this year, the bank has rolled out a number of commemorative activities. These include a Thought-leadership Forum with the University of Cambridge; a Golf Competition; Tree Planting exercises across all the bank’s branches as part of Green Ghana Day; a Health Screening and Health Walk in Tamale; a series of special interactive sessions with customers and clients; and several engagements on key media platforms.
