In keeping with its commitment to support the development of popular culture and sports, Achimota Retail Centre (Achimota Mall) has thrown its weight behind this year’s Rida Golf Tournament which took place at the Achimota Golf Course last weekend.
Achimota Retail Centre (ARC), the Ga East municipality’s biggest and most popular shopping destination, supported the Rida Gold Cup Competition’s 22nd edition with a GH¢5,000 sponsorship package – redeemable in free shopping vouchers.
The Rida Gold Cup Competition is organised for golfers every year, primarily to raise funds in support of charitable work across the country. Although the format may vary slightly from year to year, the tournament usually involves competitive encounters between players selected from two twelve-man teams. Golfers from the two teams then swing it out across the green in a total of 28 matches, each match played over 18 holes.
“If you may be wondering why ARC is interested in Golf, be reminded that our centre is a major point of convergence for all categories of patrons with very varied tastes and preferences in sports and pastimes,” Centre Manager Olivia Torpey told newsmen soon after the tournament.
She added, “So, we are as passionate about the development of golf as we have been about soccer, physical fitness and other key sporting activities over the years”.
The Centre Manager was quick to emphasise that ARC’s strongest motivation for supporting the Rida Cup Competition is the tournament’s humanitarian objective – the fact that funds raised at the two-day tourney are poured into charitable operations around the country.
The 2022 edition of the Rida Cup reportedly raised a total of GH¢40,000 (forty thousand Ghana cedis) for charity, some of which funds were invested in grooming children with an interest in golfing.
Achimota Mall, the capital’s most popular open mall facility, is home to a wide range of Ghanaian and international brands which offer different retail categories: including fashion and clothing, electronics, grocery, health and wellness, a children’s games arcade and a range of alluring delicatessens and eateries.
Located at Dome on the Accra-Nsawam highway, the Centre has over the past eight years not only delivered modern, secured retail shopping services to communities like Achimota, Dome, Tantra Hills, Taifa, Kwabenya, Ashongman and the entire north-eastern quarter of Accra, but also served as a major catalyst and promoter of quality entertainment and popular culture across its catchment area.
