The West Africa Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (WAIMM) will host its fourth annual Early Career Professionals Conference (WSC) from July 20th to 22nd, 2023, in Tarkwa, Ghana. This year’s conference theme is “Accelerating the Development of the Young Professional – Role of Industry Professionals and Mentorship,” and it serves as the organization’s official Conference and Education platform for students and early career professionals in the mining and petroleum industry.
The WSC provides an opportunity for students from recognized universities and research institutions to strengthen their network base and promote career development in mining, geology & geoscience, metallurgy & materials, oil & gas, engineering, and allied industries.
WSC2023 will focus on addressing best practices, industry frameworks and regulations, mining and petroleum industry code of ethics, AI, as well as current innovations and technological research in the mining and petroleum industry. The conference will feature key speakers from the Mining & Petroleum industries, students from various WAIMM student chapters across Ghana, and participants interested in exploring new developments, mentorship, technological innovations, and the latest industry trends in operations.
Attendees will have the opportunity to attend presentations by industry players and students, witness the WAIMM Best Student award ceremony, interact and network with colleagues in the industry, and participate in 3 – 5 mine site visits. Additionally, there will be workshops on python, ArcGIS, and MapInfo, along with a field trip to the offshore cape-3 petroleum systems and a fun trip to Busua beach resort.
WSC2023 offers early career professionals and students a valuable opportunity to learn about the mining and petroleum industry first-hand by visiting mine sites, engaging with world-class professionals in the industry, and exploring the latest technological advancements in the field.
