ASA Savings and Loans Limited has planted 650 tree seedlings at Ankaful Prisons and Obiri Yeboah Senior High School – both in the Central Region.
Seedlings planted at Ankaful Prisons include teak, cassia and cedrella.
ADP Thomas Patrick Seidu, Director in charge of main camp, lauded the company for such an initiative and encouraged other corporate institutions to support the facility in any form they can.
DSP Emmanuel Asiedu, in charge of Technical Services, thanked the company for the collaboration and said: “These trees planted will serve as a shade and protect our boundary, which will prevent people from encroaching on the facility’s land.
“These trees, when they grow will help reduce the incidence of flooding in the neighbouring communities,” he pointed out.
Corporate Social Responsibility CSR/Climate Change Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited said: “This is one of the means by which the company can help mitigate the impact of climate change”.
He encouraged other institutions to support the Green Ghana Project by planting more trees in their area.
At Obiri Yeboah SHS in Assin Fosu, tree species planted included royal palm, akyee, oil palm, coconut, albezia, neem tree, among others.
Mr. Evans Jomo Glivey, Headmaster of the school, said when the trees grow, they would serve as windbreaks and provide clean air to the populace in the enclave.
Mr. Peter Amoh, Assistant Headmaster–Domestics at Obiri Yeboah SHS, praised the company for inculcating in the student body the importance of trees.
Mr. Richard Nartey, CSR/Climate Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, said: “We will end our tree-planting exercises by the end of this month, and the rest of the months in the year will be used to do monitoring of the growth of the seedlings”.
