AmaliTech has held its Women in Tech Summit in Accra as part of efforts to empower the next generation of technology leaders.
The summit aims to unite women who are thriving in various fields of technology, creating an environment for sharing experiences, insight and ideas, serving as an inspiration for the next generation of women in technology.
Themed ‘Tech Herstory: Empowering the Next Generation of Women in Tech’, the event brought together some of the country’s top female professionals in the tech industry who discussed the evolving trends and assessed the progress that has been made thus far, while encouraging diversity and inclusivity.
The guest speaker, Lily Dzamesi, who is a technology enthusiast and women’s inclusion advocate, highlighted the need to create an all-encompassing environment for women to strive in the technology industry.
She advised young females looking forward to pursuing a career in the space to embrace continuous learning while identifying their skills and honing them.
She added that building a supportive network, seeking mentorship, developing strong technical and soft skills as well as being confident are key to success in the field.
Ms. Dzamesi commended efforts by the government and private sector toward the growth of the industry. She, however, added that more needs to be done.
Other technology experts who spoke underlined how crucial it is to have technology access and proficiency in this fast-paced digital world.
They further urged the participants to nurture and deepen their passion by keeping abreast with trends in the sector if they wish to have a successful career.
Among those who spoke are Anita Twumasi-Ankrah, Jacqueline Abban Botchway, Lois Young, Tracy Sarah Afram-Owusu, Farida Baberin-Yor Beacher, and Ewurabena Amoa-Bosompem.
Digital Marketing Team Lead at AmaliTech Ghana, Yvonne Yawson, iterated that having a better understanding and proficiency of the digital space is key.
“Because knowledge of the digital space is needed in any field, one will be lost in the industry without it, especially in this technologically-driven world. As such, there is the need to take education of Information Technology to the grassroots; and it must be intensified in schools,” she said.
She iterated AmaliTech’s commitment to providing free IT training courses to skilled youths in regions of great need while increasing the participation of women and persons with disabilities.
