The initiative, which is funded by Google also seeks to secure the accessibility of technology. The drive also puts forward chances for young people to gain the right skills and be industry ready by developing their careers through the extensive trainings.

The Program Officer at JA Ghana, Leslie Joppa, in a statement noted that by providing the youth with scholarships to take up training and tasks in the digital world, they will be able to bridge the IT skills gap and help encourage these young people to stand out professionally.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Google to empower the youth of Ghana with the necessary skills to thrive in today’s digital world. By offering scholarships and comprehensive training in high-demand career fields, we aim to bridge the digital skills gap and empower participants to excel in the job market,” she said.

The initiative is said to target less privileged youths between the ages of 18 and 35 to attain professional certificates in high growth career fields such as IT support, project management, data analytics and UX design.

The executive certificate courses which will be given via Coursera will grant participants job-ready skills without a required experience or qualification. There will also be the introduction of boot camps in Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta and Northern regions respectively to further enhance the completion rate among the participants.

Graduates will gain assistance to obtain employment apprenticeships, internships, jobs and other livelihood occupations such as the informal enterprises. Alongside, the boot camp will ensure that participants complete their courses as required.

JA Ghana reiterated their support to ensure that participants secure sustainable possibilities within six months of finalizing their professional certificates.

The organization also called on potential partners and stakeholders to contribute their quota in empowering the youth in the country with the necessary skills to succeed in the IT space.
