ASA Savings and Loans Limited has planted over 150 tree seedlings at the Bibiani New Town School in the Western North Region.
Cassia, orange, akyee, neem tree, mango, avocado and coconut are some of the species for the tree-planting exercise.
Mr. Emmanuel Yeboah, Area Manager of the company, told the media that the tree-planting exercise is to provide shade, regulate temperature, fight climate crisis, reduce soil erosion and repair damaged ecosystems, among other,
According to him, the tree-planting is to restore the environment with trees that have been cut down, reduce the greenhouse effect by removing carbon dioxide from the air and then release oxygen in the air.
Mr. Albert Mensah, Bibiani Business Centre Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, said: “This is part of our corporate social responsibility and desire to support afforestation in the country”.
Mr. Richard Nartey, CSR/Climate Change Manager of the company, explained that the school children are engaged in this exercise to teach them the need to conserve nature since their future will depend on a viable ecosystem.
“We have provided them with watering cans to be able to water the seedlings as well as fence where the tree seedlings have been planted to prevent animals from grazing,” he said.
He further advised the students to take good care of the trees in order for them to grow well.
Mr. Eric Asare, Head of Bibiani Forestry Commission, urged the school authority to take good care of the trees as they grow.
“Currently, individuals and group of people are getting to understand the need for tree-planting and we encourage all to embrace the Green Ghana Project initiated by government to restore trees which have been cut down by some people” he added.
Gifty Baidoo, Headmistress of Bibiani New Town School, praised the company for choosing the school for the tree-planting exercise.
In a related development, the Methodist Technical Institute, Baakoniaba – Sunyani, has also benefitted from the tree-planting exercise organised by ASA Savings and Loans Limited.
Two hundred and seventy tree seedlings, such as cassia, orange and others were planted.
“The tree-planting is to increase wildlife biodiversity, restore environmental well-being, and reduce the greenhouse effect by removing carbon dioxide from the air and then release oxygen in the air,” said Sunyani Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, Mr. Isaac Agyapong.
He pointed out that the company has been supporting communities and schools within it operational area in terms of health screening, drilling of boreholes, donations to schools; and currently, tree-planting to support the government’s Green Ghana Project.
He said watering cans have been provided for the students to water the seedlings. In addition, fencing has also been done to prevent animals from grazing. He further advised the students to take good care of the trees for them to grow well.
Mr. Daniel Amoaning Okai, Head of the Sunyani Forestry Commission, applauded the work done by ASA and encouraged the students to protect the trees to benefit everyone.
The Assistant Principal of Methodist Technical Institute, Mr. Abraham Okatakyie, thanked the company for this initiative and promised the trees will be taken care of to grow well.
