Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, Mr. Mohammed Aourongjeb, has joined a team from the company and Forestry Commission to plant 271 tree seedlings at Kpone Community Senior High School (SHS).
He noted that the tree-planting initiative is very essential for the environment due to climate change and global warming issues across the world.
“Trees absorb carbon dioxide and in turn convert it into oxygen for our survival. We will continue to join other corporate bodies to make the Green Ghana agenda a success,” he said.
According to Richmond Afari, Kpone Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, the company is planting over 2,000 trees at schools and other institutions nationwide.
He mentioned that the tree-planting is going to be done annually to replace trees which have been cut down by individuals for their own gain.
“This is also part of our corporate social responsibility and to encourage other institutions to support the Green Ghana agenda,” he said.
Mr. Richard Nartey, the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, added that: “We will be visiting you frequently to ensure the trees survive; and we have also pleaded with the school authorities to keep a close eye on these plants”.
Already, he said, fencing has been provided to ensure the trees’ survival.
Madam Grace Taylor, a representative from the Forestry Commission, urged the school’s head and staff, as well as students, to take good care of the trees so they grow well.
Mr. Ebo Kwaansa Edonu, Headmaster of Kpone Community Senior High School, praised ASA Savings and Loans Limited for selecting the school in its tree-planting exercises.
He promised that the tree seedlings will be watered and taken care of daily, as well as protected.
