Little did I know

That she, who graced the occasion

During our school graduation

Visiting our engineering hall

…of fame

Quadruples of decades ago

She, would grow to glow

Little did I know

That she would rise to stand tall

In a literary hall

…of fame

A tower

A brain’s power

Towering above all

Mothering *Anowa*

For eight decades and more

Little did I know

In my dilemma, I pose

Was she, or was she not

Was she meant to write to rise?

Rise to write

Or write and write

So to rise and rise?

Little did I know

That she, in whose shadows I stood

As we stood for the cameras

Little did I know

That she would lead

To pen down on the papyrus

And I would follow her lead

To scribble on the scroll

Little did I know

That she would lead

Mentoring the fraternity

Of those writing and authoring

And I would follow her lead

Modelling after the fraternity

Of those scribbling poesy

Little did I know

In my dilemma, I pose

Am I, or am I not

Am I standing beside a ghost

Across Elmina’s crossroads

Or beside a human

A woman we just lost?

*The dilemma of her ghost!*

Little did I know

That she, whose rise

Rose with the passing of time

Would pass on in the nick of time

Past her prime

Little did I know

That she, was *the girl who can!*
