Poetry Corner: Our Climate Changed

0

See what we have done

See what we have done to our cli-mate

Our earth mate

See what we have changed

See what has changed

In our cli-mate

Our earth mate

See how we changed our climate

Chlorofluorocarbons we emitted

Emissions from aerosls and cannisters

Emissions from refrigerators and freezers

Emissions from the industrialised Free Zone

Emissions into the thick layers of the Ozone

See when we changed our climate

When we burned coal and heated up diesel

When we vaporised petrol into fossil

When we despatched soot full of carbon

Into the Stratosphere

…as a smokescreen for the damage done

Even when we still inhabited our natural zone

See why we changed our climate

We got tired of afforestation

We fired up for deforestation

We never got tired of the charcoal cooking mood

We fired up more with more firewood

We designed habitats

In the place of our forest cover

We weeded for thoroughfares

Through our forest cover

We waded thoroughly

Through dried-up lakes

And rivers

We dredged, sitting on escaping excavators

Prospecting for hidden treasure

See why we changed our cli-mate?

II

See what the climate changed on our earth

The Ozone changed to layers of holes

The Sun saw the holes as escape routes

And the Sun shone through the holes

…in the Ozone layer

As the heat bore through the holes

To heat up the earth

The heat warmed up the steam

To raise forest fires

Th heat broke the tip off the iceberg

To melt the ice at boiling point

The ice caused a rise

In oceanic depths

And heights

The heights flooded the earth

In a deluge

As a calamitous prelude

To a climactic catastrophe
