The Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG) successfully embarked on its 2023 Health Walk and Beach Clean-up themed ‘Clean Beaches for a Flood-Free Environment’ project.

The project, which had the aim of promoting environmental sustainability and minimising the risks of flood-related disasters by ensuring clean and healthy beaches, was executed together with the ASASE Foundation and with support from various insurance industry stakeholders: such as the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG). The CIIG Health walk and Beach Clean-up programme also provided an avenue for professionals to exercise and network with other professionals.

The project included activities such as a 10mins Aerobics session followed by a One-hour health walk within La and its environs; a clean-up exercise at the Laboma Beach Estuary; awareness campaigns and the promotion of environmentally friendly practices, all aimed at ensuring a flood-free environment.

Speaking on the project’s success, president of CIIG Mr. Solomon Lartey expressed his appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to it. He emphasised the need for continued efforts in ensuring a clean environment to minimise the risk of flood-related disasters in Ghana. Mr. Lartey also took some time to educate the public about the need to take insurance seriously. He also reiterated that insurance is a good thing, and insurance professionals must preach about the benefits of insurance to the general public so as to drive away the misconceptions. “If you have a good thing and you don’t tell the world about it, it is a crime,” Mr. Lartey added.

The project has set a standard for environmental sustainability in Ghana, and the CIIG and sponsors are committed to maintaining the momentum achieved. They urged all stakeholders to continue supporting efforts at promoting clean beaches and a sustainable environment in Ghana; and by promoting clean beaches, we can minimise the risk of flood-related disasters and contribute to the development of a sustainable environment in Ghana.
