The facility is fully furnished with 30 desktop computers and accessories, server, a projector and a remote-controlled automated electric projector screen a printer as well as a one-year paid Internet.
The lab is expected to train approximately 3,000 primary and Junior High School students from the school, which is within Yinson’s operational area.
Yinson Ghana’s Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator, Edward Mensah, commented: “ICT skills are increasingly important in modern society, and our children need to have these skills in order to do well in their studies and be ready to enter the working world. Yinson aims to support and promote STEM studies by equipping students in the Ahanta West Municipality with the necessary tools”.
Mr. Mensah also added that the lab was built in line with Yinson’s mission to promote quality education and effective learning in all the areas that it operates in.
He said this is the second computer lab Yinson has provided in the Ahanta Municipality. The first ICT centre was commissioned in 2020 at the Kejabil Municipal Assembly (MA) Junior High School (JHS).
Currently, he mentioned that Yinson also holds bi-monthly ICT lessons that teache 14 ICT teachers in the municipality.
Naa Opoku Agyeman, Managing Director of Yinson Production – Ghana, added that education, a fundamental tool for human development, continues to be a strong priority in the corporate social investment of the company.
She pointed out that young people form the critical workforce for future development of the country, and thus, must be equipped with modern and technological tools to become more resourceful.
“ICT is very important to your education; and we, at Yinson Production, have recognised this need and fulfilled it. Kindly treat the facility as your own and take good care of it for other students to also benefit,” she added.
Mr. George Effah, Ahanta West Municipal Director of Education, praised Yinson Production for their various interventions and for bringing ICT closer to the youths in the municipality.
He said ICT plays a pivotal role in the educational system in the country, adding: “The current Introduction and Implementation, a course in the curriculum for Primary and JHS students, emphasised the importance of ICT”.
“It is anticipated that individuals will develop some core competencies, such as data requests, data cutting, among other Internet tools for personal development. The ICT lab has brought a great relief to academic work in the catchment area. Yinson has secured the good of our children and so shall the Lord secure the good and success of the company,” he added.
He noted that ICT in the schools will help in new ways of learning, which promotes inclusion as well.
John Agyare, Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive, recognised the stunning support of Yinson and complemented the Assembly’s effort in promoting good education delivery in the area.
He implored the school to take good care of the ICT lab and maintain it to safeguard it.
