Legendary gospel twins Tagoe Sisters have announced activities leading to their four-decade anniversary celebration in the gospel music industry and also officially launched the Twin and Children Foundation in Accra.
Chairperson for the event, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, indicated that Tagoe Sisters’ spirit-filled songs – such as Menya Yesu, Etuo Betwa, Fa Bibiara Mano, etc., – have really brought revival to herself and both older and younger generations to trust and believe in God in all situations. “I recalled when we were going for the World Cup and ‘Yedi Nkunim’ became a household song,” she said, calling on all and sundry to give them the needed support.
The occasion brought together various gospel musicians, such as Mary Ghansah, Piesie Esther, Diana Hammond, Perez Music, gospel preachers and worship leaders, and others who performed the duo’s songs.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Linmart Media Solutions, Nii Amarh Amartefio, highlighted some planned activities to celebrate the 40-year journey of the iconic music duo in the music industry.
He said the concert, dubbed ‘40 years of God’s Glory and Favour’, will be held in the Greater Accra Region and the Ashanti Region in September and October respectively, with many activities and events. The event in Accra is scheduled to take place at the Grand Arena on September 23, 2023, followed by a fundraising and 40th anniversary dinner night on September 30 at the Gold Coast Kempinski Hotel.
The same activities will be replicated in Kumasi, with a concert on October 2, 2023, and a fundraising dinner on October 23, 2023. Colleagues in the music industry and other sectors would perform some renditions of the duo’s legendary collections.
Mr. Amartefio said the Tagoe Sisters will visit the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, both former Presidents – John Agyekum Kuffour and John Dramani Mahama, the Chairman of Council of State, the Asantehene – Otumfour Osei Tutu II, CEOs of corporate institutions, and all other Ghanaian personalities to interact and personally invite them to both occasions.
“We shall also visit orphanages in both regions in the name of their foundation to donate some items to the less fortunate and mothers,” he said.
The twins narrated their experiences over the past 40 years and added that: “It is all aimed at showing God’s glory upon our lives.” They said their journey in the gospel music industry has been a mixed feelings; however, they had to brace all odds and stand for their passion and calling at age 20 as backing vocalist for the late Papa Yankson, the late Jewel Ackah, Kofi Annin Johnson, etc.
Throughout their journey, according to them, they had support and motivation from some men, such as their spiritual father and mentor, the late Evangelist Akwesi Amoako, whom they lost in a fatal accident while returning to Accra after performing at a crusade in Takoradi In 1990; and Rev. Thomas Harry Yawson, who later came into their lives and became their songwriter and director.
“Life, they say, begins at age 40, and in our 40th anniversary celebrations, we cannot thank God alone for how far he has brought us; so we are calling on all of you to come and support us,” they said.
