The Volta River Authority (VRA) has held an exhibition for various departments of the Authority in Accra, as part of its Creativity and Innovation Departmental Open Day.

The event sought to provide a platform for the departments to exhibit various innovations and strategies they have initiated to improve on service delivery.

For instance, the corporate strategy department has leveraged PowerBI software to enhance operational effectiveness, and instituted monthly and quarterly seminars on human resource policies for the Authority.

The company’s Health and Services department has digitised its operations, including x-ray machines; and stocked the pharmacy with all types of medicines.

Other departments like procurement, legal services, audit services, hydroelectric generation and real estate, among others, also exhibited new strategies and innovations to meet the needs of clients and the country as a whole.

Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, Chief Executive-VRA, speaking at the event said the initiative is meant to inculcate a culture of innovation within the company.

He said the initiative is part of measures to improve the Authority’s operational and service delivery, considering its efforts to incorporate the tenets of creativity and innovation, the power generation and other aspects of the VRA’s operations.

“All over the world, compamies are adopting technology and innovation to keep their businesses afloat.”

“Many Fortune 500 businesses are harnessing the potential of their employees through the establishment of an enabling environment for staff to come up with their innovative ideas for implementation,” he said.

He said it is the expectation that this initiative will encourage departments to strive to achieve great success in the areas of cost management, enhanced productivity, improved operational efficiency and service delivery.

Mr. Antwi-Darkwa stated that management appreciates and recognises the paradigm-shift, and will continue implementing plans aimed at leveraging ICT to ensure the initiative’s execution for sustainable growth.

He said the first pillar of the Authority’s ‘BRAISE’ strategy is to “build, nurture and develop our human capital” – adding that the gesture is one of the ways to pursue the strategy by recognising the good work of every department.

“I believe this will serve as a good way of motivating us to embrace and inculcate creative thinking into the organisation,” he stated.

He expressed satisfaction with the departmental innovations’ potential to create a diverse, committed and future-ready workforce for the Authority, saying: “Collectively, we can work toward strengthening our resolve to become a model of excellence for power utilities in Africa”.
