Trailblazers, a non-profit organisation that focuses on women empowerment has dedicated time to celebrate a special ‘Our Day’ with the Railways Community Nursery in the Greater Accra region.

The Railways Community Nursery together with its other branch at Tudu called Kimbu Community Nursery is a school under the Street Girls Aid Shelter, a Non-Governmental Organisation that works with ladies and babies living and working on the street. The two schools boast of 500 children from the street that have received daycare services since its inception.

Speaking during the ceremony the Administrator for Trailblazers, Gifty Takyi said their partnership with Street Aid Girls from the beginning has been to provide support to the organisation at every point in time, hence, the support to the school kids during their special day.

“Since we partnered with Street Girl Aid, our sole purpose has been to meet them at every point of their need. So we are happy when we are able to provide something at any point in time. We are told today is ‘our day’ for the kindergarten of Rail Ways Community Nursery which is under the Street Girls Aid, so we decided to come and then give them some drinks, water, biscuit toffees, ice cream and the likes,” she said.

To make the programme very fun for the organisations like Aqua Fresh, Special Ice among others sponsored with Kalypo, water and drinks. Ms. Takyi commended them for their support although notice sent to them was within a short period.

Ms. Takyi speaking on plans to provide employment opportunities for the ladies mentioned that: “We plan to speak to institutions that they may be able to work for, saloons, other companies who may be able to employ them. So whatever skill that they will acquire from us, we will try to pair them with any company that needs the skill that they have acquired so that at least they can employ them and be paying something.

With the kindergarten here, we will accept their kids for them to be able to receive training. We help them learn something that can benefit them in the long term so that they can be taking care of themselves day in and day out.”

The Deputy Director for Street Girls Aid Shelter, Irene Engmann thanked them for putting smiles on the faces of the kids and the caregivers.

“You know we are getting to Christmas so for trailblazers to come to our aid and organize this party for us, we are very excited about it because it is not a normal day for us so it is very exciting to us and the kids as you can see the smiles on their faces,” she said.
