One hundred and thirteen people have benefitted from a health screening exercise organised by ASA Savings and Loans Limited (Aboso Business Centre) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.
They were screened and tested for malaria, hepatitis B, blood pressure, sugar level, among others.
Those screened were customers and people within the company’s operational area.
A total of GH¢6,520 was spent on screening and free medication for the people. Area Manager of the company, Nasimul Islam, explained that the health screening forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility and is done annually.
“This is to ensure that our customers are healthy, fit and can go about their daily duties effectively without any sickness,” he said.
“Our priority, is to meet the needs of our stakeholders through CSR so as to foster developmental change and improve living standards of the people by supporting them in their businesses,” he added.
According to Daniel Boadu, Branch Manager of the company, ASA has peaceful and cordial relationships with the customers and communities in their operational area.
The screening, he said, is to help individuals who cannot go for regular check-up to do so; and encouraged other institutions in the area to support in ensuring that the people have good health.
“As a business entity, we deem it necessary to share our profit with the people through our CSR, and we will continue to do more,” he said.
Dr. Fedlis Teebo, Head of the Medical Team, after the health screening explained that the most-occurring diseases were malaria and blood pressure.
“Those who had high blood pressure were counselled on the disease as well as advised to take in a lot of water, more fruit and vegetables; and then cut down on the intake of alcohol, avoid too much salt and sugar, as well as to exercise regularly,” he said.
He advised those who were given medications to take them according to the dosage, and encouraged those who were referred to other health facilitites to do go.
Mercy Anaman, a customer, thanked the company for the health screening, saying: “This has enabled most of us to know our health status”.
