ActionAid Ghana is set to host a National Climate Change Seminar for Civil Society Organisations, Government Agencies, Academia and Climate Activists.
The two-day event which is themed “Building Climate Resilience in Ghana through Multi-stakeholder Collaboration” will be coordinated both virtually via teams, Facebook and physically for Day 1 and 2 at Mensvic Hotel in East Legon.
The seminar will highlight key topics in the areas of Climate Adaptation, Climate Financing, Gender Dimension of Climate Vulnerability, Nexus between Climate Change and Agriculture, Loss and Damage amongst others.
Commenting on the theme, John Nkaw, Country Director of ActionAid Ghana said, “the devastating impacts of climate change and its related loss and damage demands multi-stakeholder collaboration to identify lasting solutions that can begin Ghana’s climate resilience building.”
The summit will feature distinguished speakers and from Civil Society Organisations, academia and State Agencies in Ghana. They include Professor John Kuwornu, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Rose Mensah- Kutin, Executive Director, Abantu for Development, and Dr. Andrew Limantol, Lecturer, University of Environment and Sustainable Development.
The others are Dr. Antwi-Boasiako Amoah, Acting Director, Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation, EPA, Ayuba Abukari, Project Manager, ActionAid and Dr. Daniella Sedegah, Lecturer, University of Environment and Sustainable Development.
There will be one Panel discussion by Smallholder Farmer Groups led by Patience Bogkur, Smallholder Women Leader, Lawra District
The seminar will also launch two research reports conducted by ActionAid under the Northern Ghana Integrated Development Project funded by the European Union. The first report focuses on Existing Social Protection Schemes in the Upper West, East, Savannah and Northern regions of Ghana.
The research seeks to document the existing government-led social protection schemes in these communities; assess the extent to which these social protection schemes serve the interests of the smallholder women farmers and other vulnerable groups.
The second report touches on the existing climate resilient strategies in 15 districts in Northern Ghana.
Dr. Michael Tuffour, Head of Department, Water Resources and Sustainable Development, University of Environment and Sustainable Development will moderate the seminar.
The 2022 National Climate Change Seminar is being organised in collaboration with CSO-Rise, University of Energy and Natural Resources, University of Sustainable Development, Ubanet GH, TreeAid, with funding from the European Union.
