BetPawa, a prominent betting company and sponsor of the Ghana Premier League, has welcomed the Accra High Court’s decision to reject a motion for an injunction that sought to prevent the betPawa Premier League from being played.

Accordingly, betPawa Premier League resumes following this crucial decision of the High Court.

In September, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) suspended the league following the injunction application. However, the Accra High Court on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, ruled that the Ghana Premier League can now resume having been on hold after just three game weeks.

betPawa in a statement said: “We can’t wait to have you back in the stadiums and enjoying the games with us. We are looking forward to working even more closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the clubs and the players and the fans as well to support the growth of football in the country as we make a lasting difference through our shared passion for the game,” the statement read in part.

“We are happy to announce that the betPawa Premier League is back! We will announce very soon when the games resume. See you at the next game!” it added.

The Ashantigold SC action stems from its dissatisfaction over a GFA Disciplinary Committee decision to demote the club to Division 2 after they were found guilty of match manipulation at the end of the 2020/21 season. The club was subsequently suspended by the GFA for continuously dealing with its suspended officials.

“The Executive Council in their meeting after the court decision were of the view that the betPawa Premier League resumes immediately to avert further loss to stakeholders,” the GFA statement said.
