Ghana Ports and Port of Amsterdam International keen on intensifying ties

The Managing Director of the Port of Amsterdam International, Gert-Jan Nieuwenhuizen, has led a delegation on a working visit to senior management of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

The visit, according to the group, was to intensify existing ties between the Port of Amsterdam and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

The two parties shared their business portfolios and explored potential areas of cooperation, such as green ports agenda, commercial strategy of the ports, optimising supply chain procedures, among others.



Director of Port of Amsterdam International indicated that his outfit is looking for efficient measures to optimising supply chain procedures from the West Coast of Africa.

He said the Port of Amsterdam International is interested in establishing a direct shipping link from Ghana to its ports to improve turnaround time of vessels conveying commodities from this region such as cocoa.

The Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Michael Luguje, indicated that the authority would love to leverage on its relationship with the Port of Amsterdam in its green agenda.

The GPHA Boss revealed that: “We are receiving some proposals from the private sector to develop wind farms to generate power and sell to the port, so we are in the discussion phase. At the national level, that has become a subject of interest and a particular agency has been tasked to coordinate all the renewable energy projects. So that would be an area we would be looking to learn from you”.

The meeting concluded with both the Ghanaian and Dutch sides hopeful of signing a memorandum of understanding to guide future business cooperation.
