… as Morrison Records Bureau launches operations in Ghana
Given the rise in cybercrimes and insider attacks, experts have emphasised the importance for public and private organisations to prioritise efficient background and data checking in their recruitment processes.
Data from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) indicates that staff involved in fraud cases increased to 278 as compared to 253 in 2020, representing an increase of 9.88 percent in year-on-year terms.
It is on the back of this that Country Director for Human Resource Certification Centre, Dr. Jeff Bassey, advised that organisation take background checks seriously, adding that inaction can put the institution at risk of being slapped with charges or questions of negligent hiring.
“Normally, the perpetrator and the organisation are jointly liable in the evidence if that individual causes harm in any form. Many organisations have been slapped with liabilities in times past, both in Ghana and elsewhere.
No organisation will want to pay huge compensations for negligent hiring, and so it is important that companies deploy the necessary background checks during recruitment,” he said.
“In other jurisdictions, there is always a bureau that serves as a one-stop shop for security issues. I recognise the great contributions the security services are making to the country’s development, but sometimes when you rely on them you almost can predict what the outcome will be.
“So I have advised some of my clients to engage agencies who have the time and expertise, and who are acquainted with the contemporary regulations to do some of these works (background checks),” he said at the launch of Morrison Records Bureau (MRB) in Accra.
For the CEO of the MRB, Emmanuel Kwame Morrison, it is key for organisations to also engage credible agencies, adding that his outfit, for instance, seeks to bridge the gap between cost-effective and efficient background, and data checks.
“Our mission here at Morrison Records Bureau (MRB) is to provide trusted technology-driven background check services to assist individuals and businesses. As a brand, we have also followed all due processes and secured all prerequisite data protection clearance to run background check services in Ghana, and will soon break into other markets on the continent.
“Taking advantage of Ghana’s digitalisation agenda, we will provide credible background check services to all Ghanaians and companies at competitive prices. We are in a new dawn, and with Ghana leading the continent with its digitalisation drive, more tech companies will set up shop in Ghana and contribute to the country’s economic development,” he said.
The company, which will be headquartered in the country, is an indigenous technology-driven background check company that seeks to seal all loopholes manual background checks suffer.
Using ultra-modern technology and software with minimal bugs, Morrison Records Bureau (MRB) seeks to provide businesses and individuals with client-focused and result-driven services, and meet demands with professionalism.
Morrison Records Bureau (MRB) is a subsidiary of US-based Morrison Corporation LLC, prioritising verification/integrity checks (identity, education, work history and reference checks), criminal record checks, and a myriad of other top-notch security services per demand.
