Asa Savings and Loans Limited (Prampram Business Centre) in collaboration with Firdalh Diagnostic Centre has organised a Free Medical Health Screening exercise in the Ningo Prampram district of Accra.
The event forms part of the company’s cooperate social responsibility, and screened 152 people comprising men, women and children.
They were screened and tested for hepatitis B, malaria, sugar, blood-group among others. Some were given medication while others were advised to seek medical assistance from another medical facility.
The most frequently occurring diseases at the event were malaria and hypertension.
Dr. Alhassan Haruna, Biological Scientist and Head of the Medical Team, advised the people not buy their medicine over the counter whenever they are sick, unless there is a prescription from a health facility.
He counselled the elderly to check on their diet, avoid certain lifestyles such as smoking, intake of excessive alcohol and taking a nap just after eating.
Also, he said those who have diabetes should always check their sugar level while those with hypertension should visit the hospital when they are sick.
Again, he advised the people to eat healthy food and take in a lot of vegetables and fruit, as well as exercising regularly and resting when necessary.
Mr. Richmond Hayford, Area Manager of the company, explained that: “ASA Savings and Loans is not only interested in profit but also the well-being of its clients”.
Branch Manager of the company, Mary Collette Arthur, added that the health screening was to enable the customers as well communities in which they operate to learn their health status so they will be able to go about their duties effectively.
