The Rotary club of Accra-La East has inducted Julia Asante Anim as the sixth President of the club to steer its affairs for 2022-2023 Rotary year.
Immediate Past President (IPP) Patience Kwapong, in handing over the mantle to Rotarian President (RP) Julia, said that she was proud of the success the club had chalked since its inception 5 years ago. She reminded her of the core objectives of Rotary and never to deviate from it. She also assured her of her full support during her tenure.
RP Julia served in the capacity as the club’s secretary in addition to being the President Elect for the year 2021-2022 until taking office as President on 1st July, 2022, which marks the beginning of a new Rotary year. Since joining the club, she has served in various positions as membership chair and fundraising chair. RP Julia is an exited banking professional and currently heads Amber Keye Investments Limited, a boutique financial and strategic consulting firm, as co-founder and CEO.
RP Julia, in her acceptance speech, stated that: “This year, we will imagine fearlessly together, discover new and innovative ways to expand our reach, empower girl-child, impact and connect with our community boldly, deepen our ties as a family and above all, have fun while serving above self.
She further added that member retention and growth is a significant contribution to The Rotary Foundation; member-education in Rotary information, showcasing a positive Rotary Public Image and undertaking service projects will be the primary areas of focus her team will tackle in this Rotary year to achieve the Presidential Rotary Citation.
RP Julia, in her concluding remarks, stated: “It is my strong belief that many needy people in our communities and the world continue to have hope because Rotary exist”. I therefore charge all present to leave here ready to make their lives better in any way that we can by supporting the good work of Rotary and donating our time, our skills and also our money. To all my fellow Rotarians gathered here, let us continue to lead the way by sharing Rotary’s legacy of “service Above Self”. And to all my family, friends and guests, join a Rotary club near you. It is the surest way to do good in this world”, she noted.
Present to grace the handover ceremony at the Labadi Beach Hotel, was current District Governor, Victor Yaw Asante; Past District Governor, Yvonne Kumoji-Darko; the club’s current Assistant Governor, Ernest Owusu-Afari; and Past Assistant Governor, Shika Acolatse. Also present were visiting Rotarians and members from the newly formed Rotaract club of Accra La-East, who received their charter certificate on the night.
The Rotary Club of Accra–La East in the past five years has donated pediatric medical equipment to LA General Hospital, water tanks to LA Wireless Cluster of schools, and Mathematicss and Science books to LA Wireless Cluster of Schools and LA Presec. Other projects undertaken include the installation of a mechanised storage stand, food items and the renovation of the girls’ washroom for the Good Shepherd Orphanage at Kasoa. Beautification and ongoing maintenance of the Tse Addo roundabout, Bus Shelter at La Palm Wine Junction bus stop, and the club’s flagship project which is a National Retinoblastoma Eye Screening for children across Ghana, estimated at €90,000 in partnership with the Rotary Club of Detmold & Bloomberg in Germany, as service project.
