Shaibu Ali elected Vice-Chairman of AIBA in Kenya

Insurance practitioners from Ghana have raised the country high in the just ended Africa Insurance Organisation Conference which has just ended in Nairobi – Kenya. The Practitioners include Mr. Shaibu Ali – Managing Director of KEK Insurance Brokers, Ghana, who has just been elevated as Vice Chairman of the Insurance Brokers Association of Africa.

Prior to this elevation Mr. Ali was the General Secretary of the Africa Insurance Brokers Association (AIBA) which is the umbrella body of all Insurance Brokers in Africa. The incoming Vice – Chairman is an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of the United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ghana. He also holds a BA and an MA. Archival degrees from the University of Ghana, Legon, which he obtained in 1997 and 1999. He also holds a Post- Graduate Diploma in Financial Management from the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands.

Shaibu Ali joined KEK Insurance Brokers Ltd. in 2000 straight from the graduate school, and rose through the rank from the position of a Broking Officer to a full Manager in 2006. In the same year, he moved to the newly licensed subsidiary KEK Reinsurance Brokers (Africa) as the first Manager. In 2009, he was promoted to the position of Assistant General Manager; and a year later, he was made the substantive Chief Executive Officer – a position he held from 2010 to 2020. In September 2020, he was recalled to the parent company as the Managing Director.



He became an IBAG Council Member in 2014 when he was elected as the General Secretary. He held this position for two terms, ending in 2017. He then got elected as the Vice-President, a position he held another two terms ending 2021, culminating in his election as the President of IBAG.

The incoming Vice-Chairman is also a Council Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana. Among other things, he chairs the Technical Committee of IBAG and the General-Purpose Committee of CIIG.

He is also a Part-time Lecturer in Insurance Marketing, Insurance Broking, and Re-insurance at the Ghana Insurance College (GIC) in the West Africa Insurance Institute (WAII) in the Gambia. He is a devout Muslim from Paga in the Upper East Region, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee, a member of Supporters Charters 64 and the Executive Phobia Family of Accra Hearts of Oaks, and finally, a proud VANDAL.
