The Ghana chapter of Old Mutual Women’s Network, an all-female platform for Old Mutual –the pan-African investment, savings, insurance and banking group – as part of activities to mark the Mother’s Day celebration has donated items to female inmates at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
President of the Ghana Chapter, Rita Adu Boateng, said the act is in line with their objective of giving back to the community and helping the less privileged.
“Today we are here to celebrate Mother’s Day with the inmates of Nsawam female prison, to donate a few sanitary items to them and share some words of encouragement and socialise to make them feel loved and celebrated during this Mother’s Day.
“For us, it is all about making sure we give back to the community as much as we can. Also, as we work on growing ourselves as women in our careers, we look at how we can impact the less privileged in society by some of the things that we do. We have visited some orphanages and schools, so today we decided that it is an opportunity to share love with them as well. Every International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day we do our best to celebrate with the less privileged,” she said.
Items donated included toiletries, liquid soaps, sachet water and other sanitary items.
Officer in Charge of the infirmary at Nsawam Medium Female Prison, DSP Love Owusu Amposah, receiving the items noted that they will help ensure the necessary hygiene needed by inmates and the prison generally.
“On behalf of the inmates and we here, we say ‘thank you’. Anytime you visit them they feel loved by the public, and this kind gesture impacts them positively. We appreciate your kind gesture. Thanks for thinking about them. You also make our work here as prison officers very simple, because with such acts and visits they are always happy seeing you and they feel relaxed. These items will go a long way to help us. The sanitary items and toiletries will help ensure the necessary hygiene,” she said.
